About Us

Founded in 2007, Brandworkers is a Queens-based non-profit organization protecting and advancing the rights of retail and food employees. Our major program is Focus on the Food Chain, a worker-led organizing effort to challenge sweatshop conditions in food processing factories and distribution warehouses that supply New York City's grocery stores and restaurants.

About the Position

Brandworkers has an opening for an entry-level Development and Policy Associate to work in our development, communications, and policy campaigning areas. The candidate must be a strategic thinker, well-organized, detail-oriented, with a passion for social justice and accountability to a membership base of low-income workers of color. Strong communication skills in both Spanish and English are a must.

The Development and Policy Associate will:

-Assist with building and maintaining relationships with our supporters and members
-Coordinate fundraising appeals through diverse channels
-Assist with policy research and campaigning
-Help plan donor and member events

This is a great opportunity to deepen your experience in all aspects of non-profit development, administration, and campaigning.

Daily duties will include:

-Gift entry and routine donor correspondence, including gift acknowledgement letters
-Grant administration
-Database administration and reporting
-Foundation and policy research
-Website updates
-Organizing, research, coalition-building, grassroots advocacy and media work as indicated by policy campaign plans
-Special projects as assigned

Necessary Qualifications:

-Understand and support the role of fundraising for social change
-Attention to detail and solid organizational skills
-Bilingual in Spanish and English
-Computer literate and comfortable with learning new technology
-Strong writing and proofreading skills
-Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple overlapping priorities
-Demonstrated commitment to racial and economic justice through workplace organizing
-The ability to create and stay accountable to a work plan

Preferred Qualifications, but not required:

-Previous experience in social justice work especially labor, community, or immigrant rights organizing
-Experience with donor databases, especially constituent relationship management systems
-Comfortable with social media, especially Facebook and Twitter
-Video and photo production and editing skills
