Since 2007, Brandworkers has been advancing the rights of retail and food employees most prominently in the food processing factories and distribution warehouses that supply New York's grocery stores and restaurants. Through worker-led campaigns, Brandworkers members have won substantially improved working conditions and recovered nearly 1.5 million dollars in unlawfully withheld compensation.
Each year, the Brandworkers community gathers to honor Champions of Economic Justice for their commitment to advancing the rights of low-wage workers and their families. Through their actions and values, these courageous champions have made a difference for working people including marginalized immigrant workers:
- Terri Gerstein, Labor Bureau Chief, Office of the Attorney General of the State of New York, for her diligent enforcement of workplace laws on behalf of hard-working New Yorkers
- Brandworkers Members at a Queens Industrial Bakery, for their effective campaigning to create a dignified workplace and a sustainable food processing industry in New York City
- Vladeck, Waldman, Elias & Engelhard, P.C., for their superb legal representation of Brandworkers members and advocacy for equal employment opportunities
